Dear Courtyard Visitor: As you no doubt have noticed, the Courtyard has undergone some radical changes. We have already disabled all of the Courtyard discussion rooms, and are in the process of permanently removing the Courtyard from The Upper Room’s Web site. There are a number of reasons for this move. Primary among them, however, is what has been for us a disturbing growth in the number of derogatory, hate-full posts in the discussion rooms over the past several months. Repeated appeals for civility and reminders of the Terms of Use of our site seemed to have no lasting impact, so our staff felt that closing this portion of our site was our only viable alternative. We do not have the staff capacity to constantly monitor activity in this area, nor to deal with the fallout from inappropriate posts. I offer my profound apologies for those of you who made use of this area, and these discussion rooms, as places to interact with others of like faith and to discuss issues of importance in your faith journeys. Perhaps, in the future, we can again offer a way for persons of faith to engage one another in a way that enacts Christian hospitality. I hope that Upperroom.org will remain a vital component in your lives of faith. Peace, |
